The GEM Electric Car: Three Passenger Models That are Cleaning up the Local Environment

The GEM electric car is a low cost, ecofriendly plug in vehicle that has been helping pave the way for small EVs (electric vehicles) since the 90s.

The modern GEM passenger models have an average maximum speed of around 25 mph, and can be driven up to 30 miles on a single charge.

They can be charged using a normal 120 volt outlet in just a few hours.   Due to their low speed capacity, GEM plug in cars can only be used in speed zones of 35 mph or less, as required by law.

GEM e4

With the concept of lowering gas emissions catching on in most parts of the world, alongside the attractive price tag of between 7000- 13,000 dollars, GEM EVs are catching the attention of environmentalists, and penny pinchers everywhere as a cost effective solution to localized driving.

But, the small GEM electric car has caught a little flak from those that prefer earth polluting gas engines over electrical powered vehicles.  Publications such as CarandDriver have essentially called it a glorified golf cart.

Their biggest plight with the small EV community is that they can’t be driven on highways, hence they cannot compare to conventional gas powered cars.  Well DUH!

Small EVs were never meant to replace gas powered polluters that car publications glorify so much.

They were created for the ecofriendly minded person that has made the voluntary decision to make environmentally responsible driving choices that will greatly lower gas emissions in their local community.

So, I say let’s ignore the naysayers, and focus on the important details of the three modern GEM electric cars.

GEM has created three different models of electric cars for general driving use, each with its own unique, earth friendly features and applications.

GEM e2

The GEM e2 is the perfect vehicle for neighborhood driving, security/police patrol, college campus driving, valet driving, and a host of other practical applications.  The e2’s top speed is 25 mph, with a range of up to 35 miles on a single charge.

The e2 is powered by six 12-volt flooded electrolyte batteries, and a 72-volt battery system with onboard charger.  Other features include:

•             Ergonomic seating for 2

•             Grab Handles

•             Accessory Outlet

•             Interior Dome Light

Next up on the passenger GEM electric car list is the four door e4.  The GEM e4 is perfect for carpooling to the local neighborhood school, customer transportation/site tours, campus tours, student transportation around campus, use at a camp site or beach resort, and a host of other practical uses.

Just like the e2, the e4 has a top speed of 25 mph and a range of 30 miles on a single charge.  It is also powered by six 12-volt flooded electrolyte batteries, and a 72-volt battery system with onboard charger.  Some of the key features of the e4 include:
